Hope you're all well and have had / are having a good festive break. I had a few days away from DIY but still somehow managed to accumulate enough to talk about. So, without further ado, let's get you up to speed...
22nd December
I took the girls shopping. Not for clothes or toys. No. For paint. I take them to all the cool places!
To be fair, the second-born has a great eye for colour. She is totally going to be helping with colour choices for the rest of the house. Today, though, it was paint for her bedroom and also for her sister's feature wall.

Tracy and I were disappointed with the distribution of chocolates in our selection box. However, when compared to my friends' distribution analyses, it turns out that we were actually quite fortunate. Especially with Twirls - according to some guy on Facebook (who had heard off someone else so obviously 100% accurate) there's a world shortage of Twirls. Whatever the truth, there's obviously not much consistency:

A sale was being held by the place we had planned to get our appliances from. So, of course, we took full advantage. I don't think we saved as much as we would have if we'd bought the stuff over the summer, but then we would have been living in the garden for lack of space. So we are where we are and at least saved something.
The aforementioned stuff comprises appliances required to complete the electrics in the kitchen. So that's the two ovens, one dishwasher and one hob.
This also means that the worktops are now purchasable. I have, in fact, designed the worktop using yet another online planning tool. So it should have all the right cuts in all the right places. I've not ordered it yet. Partly out of fear of getting the measurements wrong and partly in hope of a new year sale.

Friend C made the mistake of visiting our building site home and was promptly roped into DIY duties. She had come bearing overalls so it seemed only right to banish her to the loft.
She did an excellent job in the large bedroom, painting the feature wall and doing most of the edges.
Secondborn started the roller painting on the small bedroom's feature wall but she soon got tired so I finished the rollering. Friend C did most of the edges.
Thankfully we had enough paint. The tubs were getting dangerously close to empty, which added a bit of jeopardy to the experience. You know, just to spice things up a little 'cause this whole experience isn't stressful enough!
The large bedroom's door was also taken off so that the door and frame could be sanded down and painted. Friend C also filled in the remaining holes in the door frame with wood filler.
After working her so hard all day we thought it only fair to feed her. We had booked a table at the pub up the road with some 5 hours notice but when we got there they didn't have a table for us and grumbled about it being short notice (though I suspect someone forgot to check the computer but owning your mistakes is difficult for some). They soon sorted it though and it was a good meal so it was worth the initial faff.
Next steps
So I'll order the worktops and carpet in the new year. I'm keeping an eye on their websites in case of sales but if nothing appears in the next few days I'll just go for it.
Builder wants a list of snagging jobs. He already has a list but I guess having one off me and one off Tracy will make it all complete. Or something. I just hope he takes the cement and bricks that have tried to hide themselves at the bottom of the garden. That should be his job complete assuming I can deal with the electrician directly. We'll have to discuss that when he comes round.
One last disclaimer
The letter assigned to each friend mentioned in this post should not be construed as a ranking. It's purely in order of appearance - like the credits in Allo Allo.
Now, obviously you're my favourite, but we don't want the others to feel left out so keep it to yourself, okay?
