Build Day 18

 We have archeology!

So you remember when we lifted the floor of the conservatory and found remnants of a previous structure? I say we, but we all know I had nothing to do with it! Anyway, Able Assistant was excavating a trench for the drain and it looks as though he's happened upon a previous connection to the drain.

What does this mean? It means that whatever the prior structure was, it had water drainage. So could've been a sink, or a toilet etc.

Exciting! I wonder what it actually was and why it was taken down? I think that whoever added the plumbing for the washing machine in the conservatory had no idea about this drain. If they had, they wouldn't have added a load of nasty piping outside.

So we have a rough timeline. First structure replaced by a conservatory across the whole width of the house. Later, plumbing is added for a washer. Probably at the same time the kitchen is refurbished as that got rid of space for appliances. Then we come along and make a kitchen that's actually fit for purpose. Does that make it third time lucky or is it just adapting the house to different needs?

I should probably stop getting so excited about a hole.

Other than the above, though, there's just continued preparation of the ground surface. He's got a lot of soil to shift tomorrow. I don't envy him at all as the weather is getting hot again.
