Build Day 75

The electrician came yesterday to finish off the kitchen electrics and sign off the work.

I was busily clearing the work area when he arrived. He looked at it and asserted that the layout had changed. I should have pointed him to this blog because he'd soon see that the layout for the appliances hasn't changed since he first came.

Nevertheless, he got to work.

I was up in my new office, he was busy in the kitchen. Suddenly I heard a power tool start up. I heard wood being cut. Every single cut made me flinch. I felt sick. What was he doing to my beautiful cabinets?!

This torture only lasted 5 minutes (max), but it felt so much longer. All the doors in the house were open so I could smell the sawdust. It was like I was inhaling the casualties; filling my lungs with the assault on my cabinets.

Not long after, he proclaimed himself done and he departed; taking the socket cases, that we'd lovingly installed, with him. They're only 76p each so it's the principal that bothers me, rather than the value.

Here's what the 'finished' installation looks like:

Double sockets that nobody asked for (singles were requested) and an isolation switch that blocks the hole for the oven's plug to go in and out. Oh and there's no slack in the cable going into the one double socket so when I come to doing plumbing matters and need to move the cabinet, I'm going to have to unwire the socket.

So yet again someone came in and did exactly what they wanted to do, necessitating me to come along later and fix it. I bet their houses attract greater attention to detail!

And on that note, that's all the official building work done. No more build days. No more strangers.

At least we finished on a nice number (i.e. divisible by 5).
