It's been a busy weekend. Saturday was a blur, Sunday hasn't been much better.
I didn't get any pictures on Saturday. Then in the evening we were at a wedding reception so didn't get to post anything. Now I'm struggling to remember what on earth we did!
I think it was on Saturday that the cornice threw us a curve-ball. So the sides fitted nicely but at the front, the holes to fasten the cornice in place actually lined up to between the door and the cabinet.
After some swearing, despairing and a cup of tea, a solution was devised. We used two pieces of wood to clamp the cornice in place rather than screw it in directly...
The corners of the cornice and pelmet were glued and left to dry. That's about all we had time for before having to get ready to go out.
On to Sunday and we worked fitting the filler piece of wood over on the right hand side of the units. Due to the tight space, this was actually fitted by removing the cornice and pelmet, connecting it all together and then carefully sliding it all into position. This actually went quite smoothly...
Next job was to level out the base units, getting them into position so that we knew how much to cut off the backs of the right-hand units to create the central 45cm gap for the dishwasher.
I was slipping and sliding all over the cold floor trying to get the units level on every axis. This was a faff but made steady progress up until the right-hand corner unit which needed to be both higher and lower simultaneously.
The laws of physics then appeared to desert us altogether. We had cut 4cm off the back of the corner unit but that only resulted in the space for the dishwasher widening by 0.5cm!!!
After some further despair, we thought it through and it turned out that one of the oven units was wonky. Once we'd sorted that, the remaining 3.5cm appeared. This was a relief - not just for the kitchen but also for the universe, which by this point was probably feeling a bit nervous too!
I was quite proud of my sawing on the above unit. I think it lines up with the wall really well.
Anyway, other than working out where the sections of worktop would run (and so what sizes I need to order) that's it for the kitchen.
