Build Day 73

There was a Build Day, whereupon he mystery hole grew into a window!

If we nip back in time briefly, here's how the old kitchen started...

Noting that the sun was shining through the front door for the above shot, you can still see how dark it was.

Heading a bit forward in time, to this morning, and the builder took a massive drill to the wall. The hole went all the way through and I imagine it was to establish a common point on both sides of the wall to measure from. I didn't get a shot of that though.

Next, the wall was dismantled where the window needed to go. It's a narrow window so the lintel is minimal - just a piece of metal. This was all done from the outside and involved cutting bricks down to size and cementing back into place to create a straight edge.

Then the plasterboard was removed neatly and the window was fixed into place...

The room looks so much different now. The lighting is much better too. Here's what it looks like...

The light was beginning to fade at this point so it still looks a little bleak in there but it's still an improvement.

A ton of sealant was put down the side of the window frame in an attempt to prevent draughts until it can be sealed in properly.

Still got the under-stairs cupboard window to replace but that should be an even quicker job.

Also, I still have to order the key appliances and worktops for the kitchen but the appliances aren't back in stock yet. At least Black Friday is over so the prices should be cheaper again now.
