So today has been an inside day. Which is good because it was pouring down with rain plus with a fair bit of wind too!
As expected, the rafters are being upgraded for use as floor joists. No idea if that's the right terminology but I'm open to being corrected.
This appears to involve installing wide lengths of wood alongside the existing, much thinner lengths of wood that the first floor ceiling is attached to.
This is a delicate job. You're on top of a 70 year old ceiling that wasn't built for being used as a floor. There's no floorboards, just thin strips of wood to balance on. So the stakes are high. Alas, the first floor ceiling is not holding up. Bulges are appearing...
Hopefully these are easily made good.
Did I mention that the building inspector came round yesterday and was happy with the work so far? If not, I have now.
