Thankfully the hollow tiles lifted without breaking and I scraped the adhesive from the floor. In the small patches that the adhesive had stuck, it brought up a bit of the concrete so I resealed that too.
Then it was just a case of getting back into a rhythm. Tracy kept me well supplied...
I changed tactics with the mixing of the adhesive. Yesterday I just kept topping it up but I found that it wasn't lasting long. Today I scraped the bucket out each time which worked far better.
And that's it really. Just mixing a bucket of adhesive (so glad I bought a mixing paddle for my drill), slapping it on the floor, combing it to the right height, wiggling a tile or two into place and repeat. Until, 26(ish) tiles later:
Still have to do a load of tile cutting and I need to build some floor up where there are gaps by the doors. I'm hoping that, like grouting, it's a time consuming but less energetic process than laying the tiles.
