Some visible progress today. We now have walls, insulation, more walls and a large amount of unused cement!
I'm actually going to start the story yesterday afternoon though…
The builder didn't come round because a delivery wasn't going to arrive until the afternoon. The afternoon came and so did the delivery. The driver of the lorry I'm going to call Mr Chatty. Here is how it went down:
Mr Chatty: *rings doorbell*
Tracy: *opens door*
Mr Chatty: "you're gonna have to move your car"
Tracy:"I know".
Tracy moves car. Mr Chatty gets ready to start unloading. Based upon the evidence so far, I have no choice but to assume that Mr Chatty is not going to put the delivery in a sensible place. So I go outside and follow the established social protocol:
Lee: "where are you putting everything?"
Mr Chatty: *confused look*
Lee: "if I move these bins you can put it all in this space"
*I gesture towards a corner of the drive that, if filled, wouldn't completely block access to the house*
Mr Chatty: "yeah…"
*Lee gives a thumbs up and starts moving bins while Mr Chatty mumbles stuff*
To his credit, Mr Chatty put the delivery neatly in the cleared space. He was supervised by the firstborn.
Now we can get on with today's progress.
The building has started above the damp proof layer. No floor yet. You can see where the door is going to be, though the centre air vent isn't central. At this stage I'm unsure how much this will bug me.
More worrying are the grey blocks being used on the wall adjacent my neighbour. Big grey blocks that are going to be right outside their back window. FFS! Probably too late to change it now, so I'm now feeling like I need to apologise to my neighbour and offer my painting services!
I annoyed the builder with my curiosity this morning. All I did is ask why the wall adjacent my neighbour isn't flush, what the vertical strips they'd attached to the wall were for, why the damp proof layer for the extension is at a different height to the existing house and what was going to happen to the now blocked air vents into the existing house. Heaven forbid that I should understand what's being done to my house! How very dare I be curious!
Anyway, that was today. Glad I finally had some decent stories to retell!
