Build Day 7

Somehow the foundations had dried enough to start building on. No idea how that happened given the rain!

So the first layer has been built. In the pic below you can see the second-born inspecting the bridge across the drain. She was very impressed.

I remain concerned about the other end of the drain (where my gutter down-pipe empties itself) and when that's getting moved. The builder is less concerned and while I don't doubt it'll be sorted to a high standard, I'd rather it already be done.

I am now additionally concerned about the join between our extension and next door's extension. One of us isn't square...

I'm not worried about the extra insulation. It has only made the walls about 2 cm thicker. I haven't checked my plans but that should be livable. If anything gets awkward it'll be fitting the kitchen units up to the edge of the door to the garden. That space was pretty tight and the required size is somewhat dependant on standard widths of cupboards.

What I do like, though, is how neat the walls have been fit into place. That mortar on surfaces that are never going to be seen has been applied with care. I'm sure a pro would spot things, but I find it a reassuring sign.

Cement and concrete dry as a chemical reaction rather than be affected by rainwater I believe.
