Build Day 10

It's 07:30, it's a school holiday so I'm sat in bed messing with my phone, psyching myself up for the day while Tracy is curled up next to me after snoozing her alarm for the 5th time.

The doorbell rings.

It's Mr Chatty's friend with a delivery. Mr SIMP (Slightly Improved and More Personable) apologised and asked (reasonably nicely) for the car to be moved. The verbal exchange was on a par with the sort of interaction one can expect from a fellow human being. Vast improvement on Mr Chatty. Mr SIMP is welcome to come again.

Half the bricks that he carefully and neatly placed on our drive were already smashed to bits, but I guess you can't have everything.

Anyway, on with today's progress.

Drain has been relocated (with temporary connections to the existing plumbing). Other side wall has been built up. Though there are clearly going to be a few challenges in this corner...

The garden tap needs removing (but they've been using it, so losing it is going to be a shame for them). The grey bricks overlap the window frame slightly. The waste water pipes from the bathroom are also in the way of the new wall. And have you seen how weather beaten these bricks are? It's a wonder they don't crumble into dust just by looking at them!

So the outside now looks like this:

I'm paraphrasing but, in short, the builder has a disagreement with the architect about the plans. Specifically some of the measurements not being up to regulation. This means that there's now even less space (5cm on top of the other 2.5cm from the extra insulation) for the kitchen cabinets, which were already having to be shoehorned in. So I may need to adjust the layout once the dust settles and I can physically mark everything out in the real world.

Lots still to do but making steady progress and I'm happy to report that we're still on schedule.
