More Garden Adventures

This is where we left it last week. The back fence is now visible but there's the remains of a trellis still in place, plus a whole load of rubbish behind it.

So the dynamic duo (mom and dad) returned to the house and worked their magic.

The trellis was removed, the dead tree that was holding it up was taken out. Then the ground behind was cleared.

Of course there were slabs. At this point it kind of goes without saying! What we didn't expect was bricks, bricks still cemented to other bricks (goodness knows where the rest of the wall is / was) and some sheets of glass. The glass looked like it was from a cabinet, though there was a lot of it.

Clearing all of that detritus made the structure of the "retaining wall" visible. It was not particularly well built but at least there were no sheets of asbestos. Just poorly supported slabs.

We'll have to take this "retaining wall" out anyway - this will become the route for machinery to access the rear of the house (for the extension). So this will become a slope for a while. No idea if that will become permanent at this stage though.

One thing we did confirm is that at some point this bottom section of the garden was all gravel, once upon a time. I'm planning on reclaiming this gravel (it's currently covered in vegetation) and using it to fill the weird gap between our garden and the garden fence. Hopefully that will make maintenance a bit easier whilst still draining well.
