Build Day 56

The house is coming together, quite literally... there's now a staircase:

Can't use it yet, it's being held together with a few nails and some glue by the looks of it. Given the steep gradient of the existing stairs, I suspect this new staircase is more standard in its upward trajectory. We'll have to see what it's like once it's usable.

As expected, we've lost a corner of the landing window but this is made up for by the new window higher up.

My friend has helped me with some research on that vintage wallpaper that lurks beneath the ubiquitous woodchip rubbish that otherwise prevails around the house.

It looks like the design is an ode to a particular 1930's art deco design, here they are side by side:

With the house not existing until the 50's then this can't have been created during the first wave of popularity. The fashion for art deco / geometric shapes reappeared in the 60's but the earthy green colour may be more of a 70's fashion.

I am yet to spot any layer beneath this paper either, which could potentially corroborate an early date. I think more research is needed to be certain but this is an interesting development, thank you!

In the meantime, if anyone else has any insights, feel free to leave a comment below or message me / Tracy.

Elsewhere in the house, there were no further visible changes. So it's likely that all of today's efforts were staircase related.
