Build Day 55

Hello people! I am still here, there's just not been anything happening. Well, yesterday the builders moved the remaining tiles from the drive up to the top of the scaffolding, but that was it.

Today though, there's much more to report.

Externally, those old roof tiles down the neighbour's side of the dormer were replaced and wood strips fixed to enable tiling to be affixed were positioned.

Not sure why the new wood is blue. I would have thought all the external wood will have been pressure treated to make it more durable.

The inside has witnessed some more drastic transformation...

Yes, that's right, the ceiling and wall have been removed to enable the new staircase to be fitted. It's a strange sight and the acoustics are now very different. Altogether rather disorienting!

In the above picture you can see how the builder has been careful to ensure that the new side wall merges seamlessly with the existing side wall. At least that's what has been attempted.

Thanks to this demolition, I got to see what the internal walls are made of. It's a very light breeze block. Not especially crumbly or anything so the shelves falling off are more likely be put down to my poor drilling.

Another discovery of the day was the old wallpaper. Check this out folks...

This may well have been the height of fashion at one point but it looks old to me. It's that quintessential 70's green but I'm not sure if the pattern is earlier. May have to do some research on this.

In other news, two of my daughters called me lazy. The second-born came home from Rainbows and just blurted that out at me. So I asked the firstborn for a second opinion and she said 'sometimes'. I guess working (at either actual work or doing DIY) for 38 consecutive days, destroying my mental health in the process, doesn't count for anything then! 🤣
