Kitchen Assemblage Day 16

Well that was a manic 6 hours.

Yesterday I had a day off. Went for food with the fam and then went to a bonfire night thing. Got home and watched the fireworks out of the new loft windows with the offspring. The firstborn's room had a great view!

So that just left today to cut six tiles to size / shape and then fix them into position. This would have been easier if I had been able to start before 14:00.

I would love to say that the tile cutting went smoothly but my pants would most definitely be on fire if I did.

To be fair, it started well. I got the hang of the tile cutter but the bit being cut off soon got too small and I may have generated a little bit of wastage.

I needed to create some cut-outs to go around a corner so I got the tile saw out but after what felt like an hour I had only cut a solitary centimetre.

At this point I remembered that someone had lent us an angle grinder. I practiced using it on one of the damaged tiles and then started on the cut-out. This worked quite well until the blade wore out halfway through!

At this point the time was 15:42 and the shops would be closed at 16:00. Therefore there then ensued a rapid evacuation of the house followed by a tense drive to the DIY shop. With 5 minutes to spare I entered the shop, found a new blade, paid for it and returned home.

This new blade worked very well and all 6 tiles were quickly cut to size.

Though I may have made a little mess in the process...

By now it was dark, so mixing the tile adhesive outside was interesting. Nevertheless, it was done, and the tiles were quickly laid. Needed loads of adhesive to try and avoid voids beneath the tiles.

Lastly, I relocated the cardboard mountain to further assist the carpenter tomorrow.

And that was today. A dusty rush but hopefully it'll dry nice. I may need a wash though...
