Build Day 36

I have been safely at work today, so I missed today's action but apparently it's been quite a day. Tracy has been recanting the tale all evening so I'm not going to do this justice but I'll see if I can cover the main points...

So the day officially began at 07:54 when Tracy, who was upstairs getting the offspring ready for school, heard a knock on the door. Much to her surprise, a voice shouted up the stairs that there was a delivery. That voice was the electrician, who had let himself in, started work and who had answered the door when it had been knocked. Well that's an unnerving start to the day!

Then there was a logistical nightmare with delivery vans, our car and the electrician's van all competing for prime parking opportunities outside the house.

Oh and Mr Chatty was actually quite nice today apparently. Had a whole conversation with Tracy. He must have had a good night last night!

Oh then one of our neighbours came round. Tracy was worried that he was going to complain about the parking chaos but no, he just wanted to deposit some items in our skip and withdraw some other items from the skip. Bit of wood for a chopping board, plastic tube for a cake mould - that sort of thing.

So yeah, quite the morning apparently!

Let's get on to today's efforts now...

The electrician fitted a new fuse board. I didn't get a before picture, but it was just as messy but smaller box. This is in the space that will become a downstairs toilet though hiding all the wires is gonna be a mission! Also, there's one double socket in the house that no longer works and it's the one I use when working at home!

I don't like the look of the external conduit taking power to the new kitchen but I get why it's the way it is and the alternative would leave us with no kitchen at all. Don't get me wrong, it's done fairly neatly, it's just a mess of stuff on the outside wall now.

Lights on for the first time...

While the electrician was busy downstairs, the builder was busy on the roof. That massive piece of wood has moved once more. Now into a more permanent position. I also guessed right that it's the main beam across the top of the roof. I did get up on the higher platform - the view up there was impressive.

Interestingly, the beam is now embedded in the chimney stack. Not sure how I feel about that. It's not like I use the chimney but surely that adds a lot of extra weight to it?

That's all that was done. I say all, but I accept that shifting that massive beam is not an easy job at all.

Let's see what tomorrow brings. Night all!
