Build Day 3

Today was a hot one. I managed to stay relatively cool in the living room (at a mere 27 degrees compared to the 32 outside). Thankfully for the builders, the work site is in shade all morning, so they still managed to dig a foundation trench by hand. I say by hand, but obviously they used a shovel, not their bare hands, I just meant without power tools or machinery. I know I have some pedants in my audience 😜

So that was it really. The trench exposed the house foundations as well as those of next door's extension. I was surprised how shallow they all were. But the house is sitting on sandstone, which I'm told is a good thing. Though it does make me wonder how this land could have been farmland with such a thin layer of soil.

A decent day's work given the heat.

We still had to obtain a key to get access to the back road though. So we (the second-born and I) had to walk down the street knocking on doors. I took the second-born to go on a charm offensive. We found someone who was in (who I now know is a TV star) who had a key and kindly let us borrow it. The second-born insisted on giving him some of her birthday cake as a bribe / to say thank you.
