On the eve of the 10th working week of construction, the loft has gone through quite a transformation. The insulation is down, the wiring has been positioned and there's now even a floor!
In the above picture you can see roughly where the bedroom walls are going to go. One room down the left, one room to the right and at the bottom of the image, the landing. Two decent size rooms are on their way for the offspring. If you look carefully you can see the wires for lights and sockets.
There's also a wire that's descended down to the first floor...
This came as a bit of a surprise. It's for a mains powered smoke alarm. Apparently I've already paid for this as it's mandated. I liked these at the old house so it was a nice surprise to see it happening. One less job for me later!
Talking of odd jobs, the second-born's bedroom light wasn't coming on this morning. Turns out the wires in the light fitting weren't actually fastened in securely. The electrician very kindly fixed this for us.
I swear this house is trying to kill us!
Anyway, I did some exploring of the loft space, found a cool few things.
First up, look at the difference between the old beams and new. Also notice the decent layer of insulation. Must be at least 4 times thicker than the original insulation. This unfloored bit is where the staircase is going to be.
I need to correct a previous assumption. I thought that there was a beam that spanned the entirety of mine and my neighbour's house but this was wrong. It's two beams butting up against each other. Here you can see next door's half.
There's not a lot of wall between our houses at all! I found this surprising. Just two layers of bricks.
Out above the roof there's some insulation poking up around the chimney. It's also been stuffed in the gap between the dormer and the neighbour's side of the roof. I'm unsure if this is a temporary measure though I'm expecting it to at least be tidied up a bit. We'll have to see what happens.
No change on the outside, despite the stuff being here. As I said yesterday, the priority is getting the inside ready to plaster and it's not far off at all.
