Build Day 48

Today was a late one and by the time the builders left it was dark again. I believe they are pushing hard to get the loft ready for the plasterer, so that the build isn't delayed by his holiday.

So today the builders finished installing the new floor beams. The floor will be insulated, as well as the roof. Like with the kitchen extension, the rules have changed about thickness of insulation which, with all the extra bits of material and bigger beams plus an extra fire wall, added another thousand pounds to the bill! Ouch!

Anyway, you came here for pictures, not my bank account feeling sorry for itself. So here we go...

Other side of the loft with floor beams:

All the insulation and flooring waiting to be fitted tomorrow:

The damage to the ceiling has been explained. It's not anything coming through the plaster, it's the original nails wobbling, causing the 70 year old plaster to come loose. Should be an easy polyfilla job to fix it.

Also, now I know why the ceiling was cracked (prior to all this starting). The original beams that the ceiling is connected to are actually quite thin. Over the years they have sagged considerably.

Over in the bathroom, it was looking rather worse for wear when I got home. That piece of wood in the top corner might not be attached anymore. I daren't touch it:

So that's today. I'll leave you with the view of the moon and an unspecified planet as taken from up on the scaffolding this evening.
