Kitchen Assemblage Day 19

Today's main activity was in the kitchen. Armed with a fresh batch of fixings, the remaining cupboards were attached to the wall.

There then proceeded to be an insufferably long faff process. This is probably more commonly known as making sure the cupboards are aligned plus ensuring they are level both horizontally and vertically.

It seemed like forever but I may have been being too much of a perfectionist. I had forgotten that there were also fixings that joined each cupboard together. So I was trying to do everything with the adjustment bits at the back of the cupboards. That was never going to work because the walls just aren't straight.

Just look at how much the wall slopes away behind this cupboard...

I'm going to have to get a piece of wood glued into that space so that this edge has something to rest against.

There's a worse lack-of-squareness with one of the bottom corner units. I can get my fingers in the space...

This wonkiness is contributing to the central space (for the dishwasher) being about 2cm too small. I was expecting to have to make some adjustments though.

Anyway, here's how it looks this evening...

We have space in the kitchen once more! Tracy is looking forward to filling the shelves. The base units have not been levelled or anything yet. But now I know the final dimensions for the worktop, so that can now be ordered.

You may also notice that the two eldest offspring decided to use the oven cupboards as houses; complete with cushions, blankets and entertainment!

I had intended to get a good bit of work done up in the loft but I didn't manage to spend much time up there unfortunately. Too busy running around like a blue-arsed fly doing adulting.

So all I did was sand down the small bedroom door and door frame. It had started sticking due to the moisture making the wood swell. So I wanted to get it painted to protect it. However, I didn't think about all the nail holes and other random bits of damage that also needed filling. I also got a first coat of paint (a primer and undercoat combo) to 3 edges of the door.

Lots of filler in use (dark brown patches)

I also commandeered some of Tracy's nail varnish to cover any screws (to stop them rusting).
