First thing this morning we rearranged the kitchen to make space for the landing of our kitchen cupboards today.
The girls were very excited when they saw the delivery van arrive this afternoon. The second-born greeted the delivery guys with an abundance of confidence / enthusiasm and she and the firstborn watched avidly as the cupboards were, one by one, brought into the house.
They started with the small ones and worked their way up. All but two of the cupboards made it through our building site house and into the new kitchen.
The two remaining cupboards were the corner units. I had anticipated that it could be a tight fit and now having the actual units in their packaging to measure, I confirmed that going the 15m through the house was not going to work.
Instead, we (Tracy and I) would have to use the backup plan. Which was to go round the back of the house; and when I say round, I mean down the road to the private gate, through the gate onto the private road, back up the private road, through the garden and through the back door. A journey of 233 metres!
Never again!
First problem was the gate. You may remember that we'd had a key cut for it. Yeah, that didn't work. That's two completely useless key cuts done by the same place now FFS!
So Tracy went up and down the street looking for a key. She found a person willing to lend us their key, so we unlocked the gate and continued our mission.
We got to the back of our garden, where I'd already removed the fence panel, and dropped off the first cupboard outside the kitchen.
Then we moved the second one. By this point my left arm wasn't handling the weight so I was carrying the cupboard on my back (bit like a turtle) with Tracy stopping it from falling off me. That technique went well and we made good progress.
Then we needed to get the blasted things through the back door and into the kitchen. Our tired jelly-like arms did our best. By this point only anger and adrenaline were keeping us going. They WERE going to fit! And after some clumsy manoeuvring, we did it - the corner units were in the kitchen at last!
3 hours that took us. THREE HOURS!!!
We'll check for damage to the other units tomorrow. We have 10 days and we both are done in now so it can wait. Both of us had a cupboard jammed into our face on at least 2 occasions. Tracy put her hand in a load of stinging nettles and I sliced my finger open. Time for food and refreshments now methinks.
